S.B 360 - Caleb's Law
published on 06.03.2010 at 03:27 pm
Supporters of this texting-while-driving bill are making last-ditch efforts to pursuade Governor Purdue to sign the law by the deadline. At a press conference this week, Governor Purdue expressed his concerns which ban the reading "of any text base communication.
"If I get my e-mails and I pick up a smart-phone and read my e-mails, I'm violating the law. But if I print out my e-mails and I have a sheet of paper driving [and look at it], then I haven't violated the law," he said.
The bill was inspired by the tragic death of a Morgan County teenager. Caleb Sorohan died in a single car accident that was the result of texting while driving. Caleb's family hopes this law will make something good of his death.
The Governor was quick to point out that he has not yet made up his mind on the matter.
