Door Latches
Thompson v. Chrysler
Jessica Thompson was riding in the rear seat of a 1991 Dodge minivan when she was involved in an accident. During the wreck, the rear liftgate came open, and Jessica was ejected through the liftgate. She suffered a severe and permanent brain injury. Through exhaustive discovery and the finest expert witnesses, we were able to prove that the liftgate came open because of a defect in the latch, which Chrysler knew about long before Jessica's accident, yet did nothing to rectify. We also proved Jessica would not have suffered a catastrophic brain injury if she had not been ejected. Shortly before trial, Chrysler agreed to pay a sum sufficient to pay for Jessica’s around-the-clock care for the rest of her life.
Hart v. General Motors
Barry Hart was a passenger in a Chevy S-10 pickup truck that was struck by another vehicle. Mr. Hart was ejected from the truck and died. We represented Mr. Hart's wife and proved that Mr. Hart was ejected due to a defective hinge on the door that allowed the door to come loose in the collision. Due to this evidence, GM paid Mrs. Hart a substantial confidential amount to settle her claims.
