Safety Alert:
EVAMIST WARNING
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning that inadvertent exposure to Evamist through skin contact with patients using this product has the potential for adverse effects in children and pets. Patients using Evamist should not allow children to make contact with the area of the arm where Evamist is sprayed and should wash the child’s skin with soap and water as soon as possible if contact does occur. Pets also should not be allowed to lick or touch the arm where Evamist is sprayed as small pets may be especially sensitive to the estrogen in this product. If direct contact with the arm where Evamist was sprayed cannot be avoided, it is recommended that women wear a garment that covers the area where the drug was applied.At this time, it is unknown whether unintended exposure can occur with other topical estrogen products. The FDA is continuing to review adverse event reports and evaluate ways to reduce unintended exposures to these products.

Texting While Driving Bill Signed
S.B. 360 "Caleb Sorohan Act for Saving Lives by Preventing Texting While Driving"On Friday, June 4, 2010, Governor Purdue signed into law the ban on texting. Beginning July 1, 2010 all drivers are banned from texting while driving. This bill was inspired by the tragic death of a Morgan County teen who died tragically in a single car accident while texting.

Maytag Dishwasher Recalls
Maytag is recalling 1.7 million dishwasher for posing fire hazard. The appliance manufacturer along with the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of dishwashers sold by Maytag between February 2006 and April 2010.

Toyota Troubles - Class Action
Approximately 89 class-action lawsuits have been filed against Toyota in connection with the massive recalls. Toyota owners are suing the manufacture claiming that the recalls have decreased the value of their vehicles, as evidenced by Kelly Blue Book’s decision to lower the resale value of Toyotas an average of 3.5 percent. In some of the lawsuits, Toyota owners seek additional damages because they're afraid to drive what they call "defective and dangerous" cars, while others claim insurance premiums will likely go up.

Toyota Troubles Continue
The witness chairs in the House hearing chambers hadn’t even cooled, when Toyota owners who dutifully took their vehicles into the dealership for a pedal fix were reporting more sudden acceleration incidents to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.On February 24, the president of Toyota Motor Corporation, Akio Toyoda, raised his right hand before an investigative congressional oversight committee and swore: “I’m absolutely confident that there is no problem with the design of the ETC system.”

General Motors has recalled 1.3 million Chevrolet and Pontiac models in North America for power steering failures that are tied to 14 crashes and one injury in the United States, the company said Tuesday.

2010 Most Dangerous Vehicles
The way a car handles itself during a crash determines much about the severity of the occupants' injuries. Some cars hold up better than others: Tiny cars and low-level sedans are especially at risk, according to crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Bigger cars, because of their mass, generally fare better in tests — but may be more likely to roll.
